With the win the Cougars claim the 2004 Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic title. In the second game of the afternoon, 25th-ranked South Carolina came from an early 2-0 deficit to take the 3-2 win over Alabama A&M.
The Cougars improve tp 13-5-1, while the Chanticleers fall to 11-7-1.
Neither team could convert any shots for most of the first half. That would end at the 38:23 mark when Mubarike Chisoni took the assist from Peter Louis into the back of the net for the game's first goal. The first half would end with the Chanticleers leading the Cougars 2-1, despite being out-shot 8-5 by Charleston.
Coastal Carolina's Jordie Hughes scored off the Chisoni assist at 63:24 to take the Chanticleers up 2-0 halfway through the second half. The Cougars answered with a Ben Hollingsworth goal at 69:29. Scott Milroth tied the game under a minute later at 70:43 off the Jeremy Gold assist. Just 10 minutes before overtime would begin Tony Myers scored (80:07) from assists by Gold and Troy Lesesne for the eventual game-winner.
The Cougars out-shot the Chanticleers 17-11, with Coastal Carolina coming away with the 5-3 edge in saves. Chisoni led the Chanticleers with three shots, while Gold led the Cougars with five shots.
Hollingsworth garnered Tournament MVP honors while teammates Drew Cavanagh, George Grygar and Keith Wiggans earned All-Tournament accolades.
The College of Charleston hosts Elon Tuesday, Nov. 9th in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament, while Coastal Carolina travels to Birmingham, Ala., Nov. 11th for the first round of the Big South Tournament where it will face VMI at 2:30 PM.
