American picked up the tournament win.
The Cougars improve to 3-2-1 on the year, while Robert Morris drops to 0-4-1.
Charleston had many chances in regulation to score with nine shots in the first half and 13 in the second but could not convert on any of them to send the game into extra minutes. It then took just 30 seconds for the Mt. Pleasant native McGinty to send one past the goalkeeper after being set up by the blocked shot by Amanda Andrews. Andrews and Wertis picked up the assists on the goal.
Colonial Jessica Onufer kept the game in doubt with 11 saves on the day. Christina Nicholson produced Robert Morris's only shot of the game. Several Cougars had multiple shots this afternoon with Kristin Rhyne leading with her five. NC State transfer Nicole Blume followed with four.
The Cougars travel to Blacksburg, Va., next weekend for the Virginia Tech Tournament. They face Virginia Tech Friday Sept. 17th at 7:30 PM and Howard Sunday Sept. 19th at 1:00 PM. The Colonials travel to Cornell Sept. 19th for an 11:00 AM match.
