Cougars Drop Close Match to Hawks

Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Monmouth on Sunday, September 27, at Patriots Point.
The Cougars came out with early momentum as Kassy Uzelman fired a shot just wide of the goal in the opening 30 seconds.
Graduate student Mia Vrataric collected her first save of the match in the 15th minute, stopping a low shot near the front of the box. Vrataric finished the first half with three saves, making stops on high shots in the 19th and 28th minutes to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Charleston continued to create opportunities early in the second half, with Mary Martin Spinner firing a shot in the 60th minute in an attempt to even the score, but the Monmouth goalkeeper made the save.
Ainsley Chunn entered in goal to begin the second half and recorded her first save in the 61st minute, stopping a low shot headed toward the center of the goal. Chunn stopped a cross attempt in the 88th minute on a corner kick, keeping the Hawks from adding to their lead.
The Cougars will return to action on Sunday, October 4, when they travel to Hampton, Va. to face Hampton.
