#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The College of Charleston men's and women's tennis teams opened the season with the loss to Winthrop this afternoon at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The men's team fell 6-1, while the women's team dropped its match 7-0.

The Cougars both fall to 0-1 to start the season. The Winthrop men's team improves to 5-1 while the women's team remains undefeated at 4-0.

College of Charleston's Philipp Koller was the lone singles winner for the Cougar men's team, taking the #5 singles from Jorge Padilla, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8. Liran Kling and Jimmy Petit won in doubles play over Thiago Barbosa and Vinicius Bortolatto, 8-5.

On the women's side, Cougars Gabriella Moreira and Lauren Stewart defeated Danielle Moita and Ana Novaes, 8-4, for the only College of Charleston win.

Both the College of Charleston men's and women's tennis teams will host Mercer Feb. 13th. The women begin at 10:00 AM, while the men start at 11:30. The matches will be held at the tennis center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

The Winthrop men travel to Clemson, SC, to take part in the Clemson Tournament Feb. 18-20, while the women travel to Columbia, SC, Feb. 23rd, to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks.
