The win gives the Cougars their fifth straight win and is the fourth in the last five matches that Charleston has blanked its opponent. The Cougars improve to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Conference. Western Carolina falls to 4-9, 0-4.
Rachel Magory took the 6-1, 6-1 win over Trish Hanson at number one, while Gabriela Moreira won her 10th match in a row with the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Katherine Ptak at number two. Maxine Capwell won at number three, going 6-0, 6-3 over Ashley Harris. Chelsea Albertz won at the number four spot with the 6-2, 6-4 win over Susanna Sjokvist, while Lauren Stewart played at number five and defeated April Yount 6-1, 6-0.
Moreira and Stewart won the number one doubles and Magory and Capewell took the number two to earn the doubles point for the Cougars.
Charleston hosts Towson Mar. 21st at 3:00 PM at Patriots Point, while the Catamounts travel to Chattanooga Mar. 22nd for a 2:30 match.
