#articleRelated { display: none !important; } The Cougars won four singles matches in three sets to earn the 4-3 win at Covington Courts and hand Davidson its first league loss of the year in women's tennis action this afternoon.

The Wildcats (16-4, 6-1) suffered their first loss in 13 matches at the hands of Southern Conference nemesis College of Charleston (14-4, 6-1).

Prior to the loss to CofC, Davidson hadn't given up more than a point in nine consecutive matches and had shutout its last four opponents.

Davidson gained the upper hand in the match by taking the doubles point with wins at number two and three. Senior Meggie Patterson and freshman Kelsey Linville (#2) won their 13th consecutive match, pairing up for an 8-2 win over Rachel Magory and Maxine Capewell. Another senior-freshman tandem of Sarah Borkowski and Kim Whelan (#3) knocked off Charleston's Priscilla Roberts and Jenna Marks, 8-2, to put the Wildcats ahead.

In singles action, the 'Cats and Cougars split the bottom four matches; Davidson winning at the three and five slots and CofC taking wins at the four and six positions. Linville (#3), the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, remained undefeated in conference action with the only two-set victory of the match, a 6-3, 7-6 mark over Capewell. Linville has now won 10 consecutive singles matches. Sophomore Kate Levitt defeated Lauren Stewart, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to put the Wildcats back on top, 3-2.

Davidson needed wins by one of their seniors, Kelly Fillnow (#1) or Patterson (#2), to secure a victory, but it wasn't in the cards. Each match went to three sets and both Fillnow and Patterson suffered 6-4 losses in the final set as Charleston surged ahead for its ninth straight win.

Davidson will be on the road for its final three matches of the regular season, beginning at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m. CofC will challenge East Carolina on Friday, April 8 at 4 p.m.
