The Cougars improved to 1-3-0 with the win while the Golden Panthers fell to 3-1-2.
Kristin Rhyne's first goal of the season off an assist by Caroline Wertis gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead with 4:54 left in the first half.
Rhyne's score came from just inside the box after receiving Wertis' pass from about 19 yards out.
Lou Hudson, a transfer from Clemson and a Mount Pleasant native, scored off Danielle Jordan's assists for a 2-0 Cougars' lead at the 51:38 mark.
Hudson headed the ball into the top left of goal from about five yards after Jordon's pass came off an indirect kick from the right of the box.
Smith, a freshman from Denver, N.C., recorded three saves on the afternoon. The Cougars held a 16-6 edge in shots on goal.
The Cougars travel to Missouri to take on the Tigers on Friday, Sept. 16th in a 7:00 start. FIU plays host to Miami on Wednesday, Sept.14th (7:00).
VIRGINIA TECH 1, WOFFORD 0
Erin Moore's second half goal lifted Virginia Tech to a 1-0 win over Wofford in the Quality Inn & Suites women's soccer classic at Patriots Point Field on Sunday.
With the win the Hokies improved to 3-2-1. Wofford fell to 1-5-1.
Moore's score came at the 59:10 mark and helped the Hokies to a pair of shutouts in the Classic. Virginia Tech downed College of Charleston, 2-0, on Friday.
Virginia Tech held a 14-5 edge in shots and 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
