CofC Men's Soccer Drops Match At Appalachian State, 4-2

Appalachian State's three first-half goals paced the Mountaineers to a victory over the College of Charleston in men's soccer action, 4-2, Saturday afternoon in Boone, N.C.
With the victory, Appalachian State improves to 9-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in SoCon matches this season. CofC drops to 9-8-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the SoCon.
Happy Hall scored the first goal of the match for Appalachian St. at the 25:21 mark to give the Mountaineers the lead, 1-0. Hall knocked in the goal, after receiving a crossing pass from Juan Obregon.
Obregon scored his seventh goal of the season, less than two minutes after his assist on the first goal, to give the Mountaineers the advantage, 2-0. Arie Muniz and Corey Lugger received credit for the assist.
Shawn Berting scored the final goal for Appalachian St. in the first half at the 28:45 mark by netting home a deflected shot from Michael Walters to make the score, 3-0.
The Cougars mounted a valiant comeback in the second half by scoring two goals in less than two minutes.
CofC's first goal came courtesy of senior Scott Milroth, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute, to make the score, 3-1. Milroth won a free ball from a defender, proceeded towards the net and scored the unassisted goal.
Sophomore Drew Fuzy scored his second goal of the season in the 70th minute of action to make the score, 3-2. Fuzy notched his goal by netting home a deflected header from a defender.
Muniz scored the final goal of the match with less then ten minutes left in regulation to make the final score, 4-2. Muniz kicked in a deflected save of a shot attempted by teammate Sean Sassano.
Overall in the match, the Cougars attempted 17 shots and six corner kicks, while the Mountaineers took 22 shots and seven corner kicks.
Junior Corbin Waller had eight saves in the match for CofC, while Greg Walters had seven saves for Appalachian St.
The Cougars play their final match of the regular season at Campbell on Oct. 25. CofC will host a first-round match of the SoCon Tournament on Oct. 28. The time and opponent for the match has not been determined.
