The College of Charleston scored three first-half goals against UCF en route to a 5-1 victory to share the 2006 Aaron Olitsky/Nike Memorial Classic title with UNC Wilmington .
In the third match of the Classic, UNC Wilmington defeated Alabama A&M, 7-1. Sophomore Tim Masters of UNCW was named Co-MVP of the Classic.
CofC and UNCW finished the tournament with a 2-0 record, had the same goal differential and scored the same amount of goals to share the championship. Both schools didn't face each other in the Classic.
Senior Jeremy Gold, who scored two first half goals, was named Co- MVP of the Classic. Gold's first goal occurred in the 4th minute of action to give CofC (3-0-1) an early 1-0 advantage. He also gained an assist in the second goal of the match, which was scored by senior Scott Milroth in the 20th minute. Gold finished his first half scoring by netting a goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from both Milroth and junior Grant Guthrie.
The second half scoring began with a goal for the Cougars by senior Darren Toby in the 49th minute.
UCF (0-4-0) scored their lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute off a strike from Jamal Robinson to make the score 4-1.
Freshman Kareem Yearwood scored the final goal of the match in the 68th minute to give the Cougars the 5-1 advantage.
CofC had 11 shots in the match, while UCF had 14.
Freshman Corbin Waller had ten saves in the match to gain the win.
For the first time since 1996, the Cougars boast a four game unbeaten steak to start the season. The last time CofC won the Classic was in 2003.
