CofC Women's Tennis Sweeps Georgia Southern, 7-0
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. ? The College of Charleston women's tennis team concluded its regular-season with a 7-0 victory over Georgia Southern at the Patriots Point Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Wednesday. The Cougars have won seven of their last eight matches and clinched at least a second-place finish in the Southern Conference standings for the regular-season.
With the victory, CofC improves to 18-6 overall and 8-1 in the SoCon, while Georgia Southern drops to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Conference.
The Cougars won all three of the doubles matches to earn one team point. The doubles team of Holly Dowse and Anna Lee Evans for CofC improved its doubles record to 16-6 this season with an 8-4 win over Molly Maddox and Christine Caforio of GSU in the No. 1 doubles match. Senior Jennifer Hancock won her last regular-season match for CofC with an 8-3 win with partner Laura Borza in the No. 3doubles match over Emma Knight and Jessica Matlosz.
CofC won all six of the singles matches to clinch the victory. Albertz won her 14th singles match of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Maddox in the No. 1 singles match. Borza improved her record to 18-4 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Reynolds in the No. 3 singles match. Dowse won her tenth consecutive match and improved her season record to 15-2 with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Caforio in the No. 5 singles match. Link Leskosky, Evans and Amanda Becker won the other singles matches for the Cougars.
CofC will return to action at the Southern Conference Tournament at the Earle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C. beginning on Apr. 19. Georgia Southern will conclude its' regular-season by hosting Chattanooga on Apr. 14 in Stateboro, Ga. beginning at 9 a.m.
