
Charleston Women?s Soccer Blanked by Chanticleers, 2-0

Blair Monroe and Ashleigh Gunning scored mid-way through the first half to lead Coastal Carolina to a 2-0 win over the College of Charleston in women's soccer action at Patriots Point Field on Tuesday.
With the win the Chanticleers improved to 4-4-1. Charleston fell to 3-5-0.
CofC goalie Sarah Wiggers slid into a group of Chants, resulting in a foul and a penalty kick for Coastal. Gunning took the kick and netted her eighth goal of the season (35:23).
CofC's best scoring opportunity came in early in the first half when midfielder Megan Manthey fielded a corner kick from Danielle Jordan. Manthey took a shot that deflected off a Coastal defender. She collected the ball and took another shot only to be stopped by goalie Amy Haggard.
In another close miss, Cougar midfielder Katie Browne moved the ball up the middle of the field and passed off to Chrissy Caruso who booted a shot that was snagged by Haggard.
Coastal ended the game with a 12-11 shot advantage. Haggard and Wiggers had four saves each.
CofC begins Southern Conference play when it hosts the Elon Phoenix Fri., Sept. 28, at Patriots Point Field at 7.
