
White Edges Maroon, 6-5; Leads Series 2-1

Clay McCord's two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Alex Dozier to give the White squad a 6-5 victory in the third game of the College of Charleston Fall World Series. With the win, the White take a two games to one lead in the best of seven series.
The Maroons opened the scoring in the top of the second on an RBI double by Brandon Sizemore. Sizemore paced the Maroon squad with three hits and two RBI. The White team answered in the bottom of the second on Joash Brodin's RBI single to right field. In the third inning, the White scored two runs on a Michael Kohn single to take the lead 3-1. Kohn and Brodin led the White team with two hits apiece. The Whites extended the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a Mike Hentz sacrifice fly and a double steal by Jedd Cordisco and McCord.
Austin Garrett was the White starter and pitched five strong innings allowing one run on four hits. Garrett struck out five and walked two. Nick Cassidy (1-0) pitched an inning and two-thirds and was the winner in relief. Jesse Simpson (0-1) suffered the loss for the Maroons.
The Maroons scored three times in the top of the sixth after Garrett exited the game. In the top of the seventh, Brandon Sizemore singled with two outs and the bases loaded to tie the game at five. McCord threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate to end the inning and set up his eighth inning heroics.
Brodin singled up the middle to begin the eighth inning. After Gabe Marchant sacrificed him to second, Matt Leeds grounded out to second base. McCord then hit a 1-1 pitch into left field for the game winner.
The two teams will be back in action on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Patriots Point.
