The College of Charleston men's soccer team will host three teams in the Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic Fri., Sept. 7, and Sun., Sept. 9, and Patriots Point Field in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
Teams participating include Charlotte, Elon and UNC Wilmington. Day one of the tournament will see Charlotte (1-1-0) and Elon (1-1-0) face off at 5:00 and CofC (2-0-0) and UNCW (0-1-0) at 7:30. On the second and final day of competition, The Seahawks will play the Phoenix at 1:00 and the Cougars and the 49ers will play in the final match at 3:30 on Sunday.
The Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic is held each year by the College of Charleston in honor of the Cougar soccer standout who was tragically killed in a car accident caused by severe weather in early 2001. Olitsky was a key player in CofC's rise in NCAA Division I play.
“Aaron's love of College of Charleston soccer has set a wonderful standard for which all soccer players should strive,” said Ralph Polson, Cougars' associate head coach. “During his lifetime, his impact on those around him was profound and he will not be forgotten here.”
The Cougars are coming off last weekend's Saturn of Charleston Soccer Classic in which they won the championship, knocking off Mercer 1-0 on Fri., Aug. 31, and Birmingham Southern 4-1 Sun., Sept. 2.
