The College of Charleston men's soccer team returns home to Patriots Point Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they host Davidson in the team's Southern Conference home opener. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
Also, the game with Davidson will be the Cougar men's soccer program's annual Alumni Match. Along with the game, a pre-game tailgate gathering will be held at Patriots Point. The event is hosted by the College of Charleston Men's Soccer Team and Mrs. Jane Benson, wife of College of Charleston President George Benson.
The Cougars come into the match with a 6-4-0 overall record (0-1-0 in the SoCon) after the Cougars dropped their conference opener at Appalachian State on Wednesday night 3-0.
Charleston is led by junior forward Kareem Yearwood, who has scored a goal in two of the last three matches the Cougars have played. Last weekend, the native of Sousou Lands, Tobago was named MVP of the Saturn of Charleston/Nike Soccer Classic after leading the team to wins over Jacksonville and Stetson.
Davidson comes into the match with a 2-7-1 overall mark, but started SoCon play on a high note, as they knocked off UNC Greensboro, 1-0.
The Wildcats are led offensively by Alex Turner, who has tallied six points on the season (two goals/two assists). Three of the seven losses that Davidson has suffered on the season have come to ranked opponents (Georgetown, Maryland and Duke).
Last season, the Cougars came back from an early 1-0 deficit to knock off Davidson 2-1 on the road. Yearwood scored the game-tying goal at the end of the first half, while Matt Morris scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
