
Cougars Finish Seventh at SoCon Indoor Track & Field Championships

The College of Charleston indoor track and field team posted 23 points to tale seventh place at the Southern Conference Championships held Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at the Clemson Indoor Track Facility in Clemson, S.C. Western Carolina won the event, with Appalachian State coming in second.
Highlighting the Cougar effort was a school record performance in the 4X400-meter relay. The team of Emily Jackson, Brynne Johnson, Saskia Kalmeijer and Mary Zolga finished fifth with a time of 4:02.17. Summer Chambless came in fourth in the Pole Vault with a personal best and school record 11'1”, while Jesssica Cumbee posted a personal best 9'10” for eighth.
“I am very pleased with our performance,” said Head Coach Amy Schuckert. “This is something positive that we can build on for next year.”
In the mile run Amy Laughlin finished first in her section with a time of 5:14.28 and placed ninth overall. Christy Barrow put a personal-best time of 5:26.14 to place 15th.
The outdoor track season begins Mar. 8th at Charleston Southern.
