
College of Charleston Men's Soccer Team to host South Carolina on Friday Night

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston men's soccer team, fresh off back-to-back victories over ranked opponents, returns to the pitch on Friday, September 19 when they host in-state rival South Carolina. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
The Cougars are ranked 4th in the latest adidas/NSCAA Southeast Region Poll and are 22nd nationally in this week's Soccer America Top 25 rankings.
Last weekend, the Cougars won the Aaron Olistky Memorial/Nike Soccer Classic with victories over Ohio State (2-1) and Brown (3-1).
Senior Matt Morris scored three goals in the two games and earned Tournament MVP honors for his efforts. He was also named Southern Conference Player of the Week and to the Soccer Times National Team for his performance.
South Carolina comes into the match with a 3-2-1 record and is 5th in this weeks adidas/NSCAA Southeast Region poll and 22'nd in the Top Drawer Soccer National Poll . South Carolina's two losses on the year came to defending national champion Wake Forest and eighth-ranked North Carolina.
The Gamecocks are led offensively by forward Sam Arthur, who leads Conference USA with 14 points (six goals, two assists) on the year.
The last time the Cougars and South Carolina faced off was in 2005, a match that was won by Charleston, 2-1, on the road. The Cougars have won four-straight matches in the series with South Carolina.
The College of Charleston will return to action on Thursday, September 25 when they host the 2008 Saturn of Charleston/Nike Soccer Classic. The team will play Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m, while Stetson and Alabama A&M will face off in the first match of the day beginning at 5 p.m.
