East Tennessee State Captures 2009 Palmetto Intercollegiate Title

The East Tennessee State women's golf team fired a 296 in the third round to finish with an 879 and take the 16-stroke victory at the 2009 Palmetto Intercollegiate held Oct. 26-27 at Oak Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C. Kansas finished second with an 895 and Kennesaw State placed third just one stroke behind the Jayhawks. The College of Charleston placed 13th overall with a 924 in 54 holes.
East Carolina shot an 897 for fourth and rounding out the top five was Maryland with an 898.
Maryland's Jessi Hollandsworth took home individual medalist honors with her 213. Tied for second was UALR's Mallory Fraiche and ETSU's Sinead O'Sullivan who both fired a 217.
Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) led the Cougars with a three-round total of 224. She shot a 73 in the third round to finish tied for 17th. Ainhoa Nogales (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) and Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) tied for 48th each with a 232 while Kathy Boehm (Poing, Germany) fired a 236 to tie for 67th. Anna Martin (Easley, S.C.) rounded out the Cougar effort with a 241 for a tie at 82nd.
Three Cougars competed as individuals with Emily Rapp (Simpsonville, S.C.) tying for 55th with a 233 and Courtney Brink (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) finishing 85th with a 246. Maeve McKenna (Hangham, Mass.) placed 87th with a 253.
The Cougars are next in action at the Pinehurst Challenge Nov. 2-3 at Pinehurst #6 in Pinehurst, N.C.
