
CofC Women?s Tennis Sweeps Pair of Matches against Jacksonville St., Towson

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? The College of Charleston women's tennis team swept two matches with Jacksonville State and Towson this afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point. The Cougars defeated Jacksonville St. 6-1 and knocked off Towson 4-1.
With the wins, the Cougars improve to 13-3 overall on the season, while Jacksonville State drops to 8-3 and Towson falls to 3-6. Charleston returns to action tomorrow with another pair of matches, hosting Minnesota at 12:30 p.m., then Lafayette at 4:15 p.m.
Against Jacksonville St., Charleston swept three matches in doubles to earn a team point, while the team won five of the six singles matches played to take the win.
Straight set winners in the match included Keely Mulligan (Miami, Fla). in the number five spot (6-0, 6-1), Holly Dowse (Tuncurry, Australia) at number two (6-0, 6-0) and Kinsey Casey (Alpharetta, Ga.) at number four (7-5, 6-2), which was the winning point in the match.
Against Towson, a four plus one (four singles matches, one doubles match) format was instituted in which each match counted as one point.
In singles, the Cougars took three of the four matches played. Casey won in the number four spot over Ashley Perentz 6-0, 6-1, Dowse was victorious at number one over Caitlin White 6-1, 6-2 and Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) took a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Lauren Cloonan at number two.
In the lone doubles match of the day, Mulligan and Amanda Schwarz (Hilton Head, S.C.) took down Evelyn Izaquirre and Katie Young 6-0, 6-0.
