
Anastopoulo Wins 500th match, as CofC Women?s Tennis knocks off Samford 5-2

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? College of Charleston women's tennis coach Angelo Anastopoulo earned the 500th win of his career this afternoon, as the Cougars knocked off Samford 5-2 in Southern Conference action at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
With the victory, the Cougars end the 2009 regular season with a 21-4 overall mark, 9-1 in the Southern Conference, while Samford fell to 7-11, 4-5 in the SoCon with the loss. Charleston will be the number two seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Championships beginning on April 23rd in Burlington, N.C.
Samford earned a team point in doubles play, capturing two of the three matches contested. In singles action, however, the Cougars won five of the six matches played to take the win.
Winners on the day included Holly Dowse, who was a straight set (6-3. 6-0) winner at number two singles over Andrie Meiring and Caroline Newman, who was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in the number three spot over Stephanie Parkison.
Anna Lee Evans was a decisive 6-1, 6-0 winner over Jessica Diamond in the number four spot, while both Keely Mulligan and Kinsey Casey were winners by forfeit in the number five and six spots, respectively.
