
CofC Women?s Tennis Blanks Samford, 4-0 in SoCon Quarterfinals

ELON, N.C. ? The College of Charleston women's tennis team defeated Samford 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Southern Conference Championship on Friday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 22-4 on the year and advance to the SoCon semifinals where they will take on third-seeded UNC Greensboro on Saturday at 10 a.m. Samford ends their season with an 8-13 record.
In doubles play, Charleston took a team point after Laura Borza and Anna Lee Evans were 8-3 winners in the number one spot over Taylor Morgan and Stephanie Parkison. The Cougars took the point after the team of Holly Dowse and Caroline Newman won their match in the number three spot by default.
In singles, Kinsey Casey won by default in the number six position, while Borza and Keely Mulligan were each straight set winners to get the Cougars to the four points needed to clinch the match. Borza was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Morgan at number one, while Mulligan defeated Beth Erwin 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles.
