
CofC Women?s Tennis Downs UNCG, 4-1 in SoCon Semifinals

ELON, N.C. ? The College of Charleston women's tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro, 4-1 in the semifinals of the 2009 Southern Conference Championships at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Cougars moved to 23-4 on the year and advanced to the SoCon Championship Match against Furman tomorrow at 10 a.m. UNC Greensboro ends their season with a 15-6 record.
Charleston got off to a quick start in doubles play, sweeping two matches to earn a team point. The team of Holly Dowse and Caroline Newman knocked off Jessica Eblen and Britney Cloer 8-3 in the number three spot, while Laura Borza and Anna Lee Evans were 8-2 winners at number one doubles over Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley.
In singles action, Charleston won three of the four matches contested, all in straight sets, to clinch the victory. Evans was the Cougars' first singles winner with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brittney Cloer, while Kinsey Casey was a convincing 6-0, 6-2 winner against Eblen in the number six spot.
The Cougars secured the victory when Newman knocked off VonStrolley 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles.
