
CofC Women?s Soccer Falls to Duquesne 1-0 in Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, VA. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team lost a 1-0 decision to Duquesne in the first game of the 2009 Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Cougars fell to 2-2-1 on the year, while Duquesne improved to 3-3. Charleston returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 when they play host Virginia Tech at 3 p.m.
In the first half, Duquesne scored the games lone goal in the 20th minute, as Morgan Herbert scored off an assist from Shayla Bergerson. The Dukes outshot the Cougars 7-2 in the period.
In the second half, Charleston goalie Sarah Wiggers (Cincinnati, Ohio) kept the Cougars in the match, stopping four shots in goal in the period. Duquesne, however, was just as strong defensively in the second as they were in the first, as they held the Cougars to two shots to preserve the shutout.
Duquesne goalie Gabby Morin made three saves in goal to earn the shutout victory, while Wiggers made a total of six saves for Charleston. For the game, Duquesne outshot the Cougars 11-4, as three of Charleston's shots were on goal.
