
CofC Women?s Soccer Set to Open Southern Conference Play against Chattanooga and Samford

The College of Charleston women's soccer team will open Southern Conference play this weekend, hosting conference foes Chattanooga and Samford at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium. The Cougars take on the Lady Mocs on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and entertain Samford on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
Charleston, who is 4-3-1 on the year, defeated Charleston Southern, 3-0 in their last match on Tuesday night.
Three different Cougars scored goals in the match, as Annie Pease, Maryam Buazza and Alyssa Bearden found the back of the net. With the win, the Cougars also kept possession of the Silver Cup, which is awarded annually to the winner of the CofC-CSU match.
Statistically, the Cougars are led on offense by Pease, who has tallied four goals, while Hannah Gmerek has scored two goals and recorded three assists. Goalie Sarah Wiggers has made 27 saves on the year and posted a 1.23 goals against average.
Chattanooga comes into this weekend with a 5-0 record. The Lady Mocs won their last match on Sept. 20 against Austin Peay 3-0 and have outscored their opponents 18-3 in their first five matches.
Statistically, the Lady Mocs are led by Becca Smith with 15 points (five goals and five assists). Meanwhile, Chattanooga goalie Taylor Davidson has made 12 saves and a goals against average of 0.65.
Samford also comes into this weekend unbeaten at 5-0-1. In their last match on Sept. 20th against Winthrop, they notched a 1-0 victory. To date, the Bulldogs have not allowed a goal on the season.
On offense, Amber Cress has been the team's leader, scoring three goals, while adding two assists. Goalie Alyssa Whitehead has been impressive in net, making 23 saves without allowing a goal on the year.
