GREENVILLE, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team lost, 1-0, for the first time in 13 matches on Friday night at the Stone Soccer Complex.
The loss was the Cougars' first in Southern Conference play and drops them to 10-3-2 (4-1-1 SoCon). The Paladins become the lone unbeaten team in conference play and improve to 7-4-4 (3-0-2 SoCon).
The Cougars were slow in the opening half and allowed a 7-0 first-period shot advantage to go the Paladins' way.
CofC was actually the more dominant team in the second half, controlling the pace and possessing a 9-5 shot advantage.
Furman converted, however, on a counter attack that sent Dane Roberts and Michael Channell on a two-on-one break towards CofC's goal. Roberts fed a late pass to Channell on the left side who capitalized for his third goal of the season.
The Cougars ended the game trailing in shots, 12-9. George Khoury (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) led the Cougar offense with three attempts.
The Cougars end the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 30 at home against Appalachian State. The match will be the Cougars' senior day and begin at 2 p.m. at Patriots Point.
