CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston sophomore 3B Matt Leeds (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage) has been named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America Third Team and also garnered 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Team First Team honors.
Leeds, the 2010 Southern Conference Player of the Year, led the Cougars with 21 home runs and 88 RBI, while batting .326 and adding 23 doubles. The 88 RBI set a new school and conference single-season record and has him currently ranked 2nd in the nation in that category.
The Cougars finished the season with a 44-19 record, reaching the championship of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional before falling to host Coastal Carolina 11-10 in 10 innings.
The ABCA All-America teams are collegiate baseball's oldest selections, dating to 1949. All Division I coaches have the opportunity to nominate and vote on these selections, which are initially compiled into eight All-Region teams. These teams are then finalized as the first, second and third All-America teams by the ABCA's NCAA Division I All-America and Coach of the Year Committee, chaired by Dean Ehehalt of Monmouth University (N.J.). This year, the committee selected 64 players as 2010 ABCA All-Americans.
