CULOWHEE, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's soccer team escaped the Catamount Soccer Complex with a 2-0 win over Western Carolina in Southern Conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The win improved the Cougars to 5-5-0 (2-0 SoCon) while the Catamounts dropped to 3-6-1 (0-2 SoCon).
Haley Hutchens (Irmo, S.C.) scored first in the 27th minute when she blasted a shot over the keepers head from 10 yards out to put CofC out front. The goal was Hutchens' first of the year.
The Cougars dominated the opening period and managed 10 shot attempts, six of which were on net.
Hope Atkinson (Rumson, N.J.) added an insurance goal late in the game to thwart any potential comeback efforts for Western Carolina. Morgan Benz (Clifton, Va.) picked up an assist on the play.
At the game's conclusion, CofC held a 17-4 shot advantage and put eight shots on frame compared to one for the Catamounts.
The Cougars will continue SoCon action on Friday, Oct. 1 when they return home to host Samford at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point.
