
Women's Soccer Rallies for Overtime Victory

CINCINNATI, OHIO - The College of Charleston women's soccer team came from behind to beat Xavier, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday afternoon. The Cougars fell behind early bit evened the match in the 86th minute to force the overtime period.
The match evened the teams' season records at 2-3-0.
The Cougars benefited from a 13-8 shot advantage in the match.
Lauren Heap opened the scoring for Xavier in the 27th minute with a strike from a free kick from 30 yards out.
The Cougars produced several opportunities, including 10 second-half shot attempts, before finally equalizing in the 86th minute.
Morgan Benz (Clifton, Va.) was awarded a penalty kick and converted to force the match into extra time.
The Cougars got the game winner just over five minutes into the overtime period on a corner kick. Maryam Buazza (Katy, Texas) sent the ball into the box and Kelly Gautreaux (Mandeville, La.) headed the ball past the keeper from three yards out.
The Cougars will return home to host the College of Charleston Tournament over the weekend of Friday, Sept. 10. CofC will play Iowa at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Presbyterian at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
