Cougars Claim Seven Flights at CofC Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – One tandem and seven players of the College of Charleston men's tennis players claimed their flights today at the CofC Invitational Tournament's opening day at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The Cougars each faced players from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
Seniors Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) and Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) were both victorious in claiming their individual flights. Delme defeated Paul Cisti with a score of 7-6(4), 6-3. Trintignac pulled through for a 3-6,7-6(5), 2-3 win over Alex Calott.
“Delme got off to a great start in both sets, and was able take both sets,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “Trintignac got off to a slow start, but fought his way back into the match taking the second set and then clinched his match as his opponent was forced to retire.
Junior Billy Kenny (Pawley's Island, S.C.) defeated Krzysztof Kwasniewicz, 6-2,4-6,6-1, in today's singles flight then paired with sophomore Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) to defeat UNC Charlotte's duo of Alex Weber and Anthony Davison, 8-2.
Both of the Cougar newcomers, Lesser and Brice Allanic (Colombes, France), were victorious in their first singles matches played at home at Patriots Point. Lesser overcame Jack Williams, 6-4,4-6,7-6(5), and Allanic defeated Jack Williams, 6-4, 6-2.
Bryan Roberts (Charlotte, N.C.) claimed both sets against Nate Shanok, winning with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Chris Toussaint (Charlotte, N.C.) also claimed both sets in today's singles play, defeating Alex Weber, 6-3, 6-3.
“Today we had some really strong efforts in singles play. We had our two newcomers get their first wins on our home courts,” Bruner said. “Kenny and Lesser both picked up wins in singles and doubles play, leading the way for the Cougars. Chris Toussaint and Bryan Roberts played a solid doubles match and rebounded well in singles as they both won in straight sets.”
The Cougars continue play tomorrow at noon at Patriots Point.
