
Wilson Announces 2011-2012 Signing Class

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston Women's Basketball Head Coach Nancy Wilson has announced her signing class for next season.
The College of Charleston is happy to announce the signing of guard Jazma Green (Darlington, S.C.), forward Christy Hewatt (Cumming, Ga.) and center Mikaela Hopkins (Augusta, Ga.) to National Letters of Intent to play women's basketball beginning with the 2011-2012 season.
Wilson said she is very excited about the class that is coming in to start their careers with the program.
The following is more information on each of the three student-athletes.
Green, a 5-7 guard, led Darlington High School to a 17-8 record last season and an appearance in the AAA-Lower State Championship. She averaged 18.0 points per game as a junior and has 1,253 career points. Green earned 3A Player of the Year honors in high school and was also named MVP her last two years. She was also a Ms. Hoop Zone Finalist her last two years. Green has two uncles that played on collegiate teams. Her uncle William Dubose played football for South Carolina, while her uncle Chad Dewitt played basketball for Winthrop. Green played AAU basketball for the South Carolina Flames under Coach Tim Valentine.
Hewatt is a 5-11 forward and attends Forsyth Central High School (FCHS) Last season she led her team to a 16-9 record and their first appearance in the state tournament since 1986. She averaged 13.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.9 blocks per game as a junior. For her career she has 985 points, 503 rebounds, and 210 blocks. Hewatt was selected to AAAA Dream Team by Scout.com for her region. She was also named All-Region First Team in 2009-2010 season. For her combination of speed, agility and weightlifting skills she was awarded the FCHS "Iron Dawg" Award. Outside of basketball Hewatt also excels in track & field where she won the County Championship in the High Jump.
Hopkins, a 6-5 center, attends Thomas Sumter Academy. She led her team to a 29-4 record last year as they went undefeated in conference play and finished runners-up at the state championship. She averaged 20.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 6.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game her junior year. She has 1,140 points for her career so far, as well as 814 rebounds and 455 blocks. Hopkins was named All Conference MVP in 2009 and 2010 as well as being placed on the All-State Tournament team for both seasons as well.
