CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team will square off against Appalachian State on Saturday at 1:00p.m.
Scouting the Mountaineers
Appalachian State comes into Saturday's game with the top record in conference play at 12-2. The Mountaineers rank first in the conference in scoring offense at 76.6 points per game. Three Mountaineers are in the top-seven in the conference in scoring, led by Sam Ramirez at 16.9 points per game and Ashlen Dewart at 16.7 points per game. Appalachian State is also very strong on the boards as they rank first in the SoCon in rebounding offense at 42.2 rebounds per game.
Series History
This weekend's matchup will be the 34th meeting between the two teams with Appalachian State holding a narrow 17-16 edge. The last time these two teams played was Jan. 5 in Boone, N.C. as the Cougars fell 62-78.
Smith in Double-Figures
Freshman Janae Smith has had a major impact on the women's basketball team this year. The newcomer has scored in double-figures in eight of her last nine games, including her 33 point effort on Jan. 13 at Wofford which tied the CofC Division I individual game scoring record.
Alumni Game
Fans are encouraged to come out early on Saturday as the Cougars will be hosting an alumni game, bringing back many former athletes from the history of the program. Among those in action will be Kelli Garett (1985-1989) who holds the CofC all-time scoring record with 1,886 points. The game is scheduled to start at 10a.m.
