The Cougars lose for only the second time in five matches and fall to 3-2-1 on the season. Air Force improves to 4-1-0 on the year.
The Falcons snatched an early lead when Zachary Modly and Garrett Getschow paired to get the ball behind the Cougar defense to Brian Klazura who scored from eight yards away in the fifth minute.
The 1-0 lead held through the first half in which the teams each registered seven shot attempts.
Getschow found his way onto the score sheet in the 63rd minute when Kevin Durr threaded a through-ball to him and he capitalized to give Air Force the two-goal lead.
The Falcons extended their lead once more in the 78th minute when John Melcher got through the defense on an individual effort and found the back of the net net.
The Cougars cut into the lead in the 83rd minute when CofC was granted a penalty kick and Ralphie Lundy (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) took advantage with his first goal of the season.
CofC would get no closer, however, despite 15 second-half shot attempts.
The Cougars conclude their western stay with a match at Denver on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
