CHARLESTON, S.C. - The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams have been announced, and both the College of Charleston men's and women's soccer programs notched first-team District 4 selections in seniors Shawn Ferguson and Sarah Schaidle.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Schaidle started in all 20 matches this season and averaged over 90 minutes per game on the field. She found the net three times and added two assists this season. She earns the honor for the second time in her career and was also named an All-Southern Conference Team selection this season.
Ferguson was forced to sit out the first games of his collegiate career with an injury this season, but he persevered and rejoined his teammates on the field down the stretch. He still managed 11 starts and 12 appearances and scored a goal on the year.
Schaidle and Ferguson were both among the student-athletes nominated who maintain a better-than 3.65 grade point average, and both do so in the ever-challenging fields of biology and chemistry.
First-team Academic All-District honorees such as Ferguson and Schaidle advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
