
Cougars Finish Sixth at SoCon Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Dena O'Brien finished second in the mile run and captured the individual title in the 5,000-meter run, leading the College of Charleston women's track & field team to a sixth-place finish in the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The Cougars scored 59 points as a team, their most ever in the history of the program.
O'Brien, who scored 28 points for the Cougars finished second in the mile, setting a new school record of 4:53.46. O'Brien came back to capture the title in the 5K as she broke her own Southern Conference record in 16:39.47. O'Brien earned Most Outstanding Track Performer and Most Outstanding Athlete honors.
Senior Alyssa D'Orazio set a career-best and school record in the 800-meter run as she finished in third-place in 2:13.48.
Sophomore Jelain McArthur scored points for the Cougars as she finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.42 meters.
Also competing in the mile run, freshman Hayley McMahon finished sixth in 5:03.51 and senior Kristen Wolfe crossed the finish line in 5:06.15 for ninth-place. McMahon was the top freshman in the race, earning All-Freshman Team honors.
