CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's basketball team is showing tremendous improvement from a season ago and it can be seen through taking a look at some statistics.
Statistics are as of January 3, 2013 among all NCAA DI teams and student-athletes.
Junior Alyssa Frye ranks ninth in the country in three-point field-goals per game at 3.27. Earlier this season, Frye set a CofC women's basketball school record for three-pointers made in a single game with seven in the Cougars 72-62 win at East Carolina.
Junior Jillian Brown ranks 10th in the country in assists per game at 6.8 assists per game. Brown has four 10 assist games this season and six for her career. Brown has totaled 10 assists in each of her last two games, the Cougars 82-74 win vs. Richmond and the Cougars 76-45 win at Charleston Southern.
As a team the Cougars are tied for first among all NCAA DI teams in three-point field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to convert just 20.8 percent of their attempts. Offensively the Cougars have converted 19-of-36 (53 percent) of their three-point attempts in their last two games.
"This post-holiday run and winning four of our last five has been so emotional and uplifting," CofC head coach Natasha Adair said. "It's exciting as we move into conference play because competing and winning against a tough A-10 team in Richmond and then going on the road and beating our local rival Charleston Southern, it speaks volumes to how competitive our players are and their drive and their will to want to win."
The Cougars also rank first in the Southern Conference in rebounds per game (45.3), offensive rebounds per game (17.0), defensive rebounds per game (28.3), three-point defense (20.8 percent) and senior Cathryn Hardy ranks first in offensive rebounds per game individually with 3.7 per game.
In addition the Cougars have improved in several statistical categories when comparing the first 11 games of last year to the first 11 games this season.
