On the eve of the season opening clash against Kennesaw State, College of Charleston Women's Basketball head coach Natasha Adair, has written the following open letter to fans:
When I was first introduced in March 2012 as the head coach of the women's basketball program here at the College of Charleston, I stood at the lectern and said, “This is a dream come true. I feel like the support for one another is unwavering and the vision for success is crystal clear – I am eager to hit the ground running.”
I can say with pride that “hit the ground running” is exactly what we did last season. We won 16 games (doubling the win total from the year before). We set 20 school records. We had 61 top-10 performances in team and individual statistical categories and were rewarded with a postseason invite to play in the prestigious Women's Basketball Invitational, where we made it to the quarterfinals. Most importantly, last year's senior class was able to graduate knowing they had left behind an indelible legacy; something they can be proud of for the rest of their lives. They will always be a part of our family here at the College of Charleston.
Today, however, marks a new beginning. The season is upon us, and we stand together on the precipice of something special. With three returning starters from last year's team, a new conference home and a great group of new teammates and family members, we could not be more excited to begin the journey. We have 16 girls, my “Sweet 16” as I like to call them, dedicated to representing our city, our supporters, our University and everyone who has been touched by this program the very best they can.
As a team, we have been working tirelessly to prepare ourselves for this season. Whether it is 6:00 a.m. beach runs, off-season strength and conditioning work or late night shooting drills, there is always a light on in TD Arena; there is always a ball bouncing; we are always getting better.
With that being said, a big part of our success is incumbent upon you, our supporters. We want to have the best fans in the CAA, just like we had the best fans in the SoCon. We need and appreciate your support.
It is an exciting time for women's basketball here at The College. We are capable of great things.
My promise to you this year is that you will be proud to call us your team, just as I'm proud to be your coach.
Best,
Natasha
The Cougars take on Kennesaw State Friday night, at TD Arena, with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
