LEXINGTON, Ky. – College of Charleston's Darcy Dorton earned her final honor of the 2013 volleyball season, taking home AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
Dorton (Muncie, Ind.) was a member of the AVCA All-East Coast Region First Team, guaranteeing her a spot on the All-America ballot. In just two seasons at College of Charleston, Dorton won All-America Honorable Mention nods in both years, becoming the first two-time All-American in program history after Stephanie Ballard was an Academic All-American in 2003.
The senior outside hitter became the first CAA player to win the Preseason and Player of the Year Award in the same season, while also picking up CAA All-Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors. She led the Cougars (25-6, 13-1) to a CAA regular season and tournament championship, while getting CofC to its second-consecutive and eighth-overall NCAA Tournament appearance.
She finished the season with 3.60 kills per set and a .216 hitting percentage, ranking in the top 100 in the nation in kills. She hit double digits in kills in 24 of 30 matches played. Dorton also averaged 2.46 digs per set and totaled 63 blocks. Dorton finished the season as the only active player in NCAA Division I volleyball to win conference championships in three different conferences (Big 10, SoCon, CAA).
Dorton will end her CofC indoor playing career ranked third all-time in kills per set (3.92) and sixth all-time in points per set (4.31).
