Hailing from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Watson adds depth to the libero position after the departure of Emily Shelton, who ranked second all-time in school history in digs.
Watson led her high school, Chagrin Falls, to the district finals in 2012 and was an All-Conference and All-District First Team selection. Last season, she led the team in digs and service points and finished with 1,020 digs for her career. She also holds the Chagrin Falls high school record for single-season serve receive passing.
Playing club with the Academy for Volleyball Cleveland, Watson led the squad to 25th-place finish in the open division of the 2012 JO Nationals.
“We are excited to add Ashley to the Cougar family,” Kepner said. “She is an outstanding representative of what we are looking for in a student-athlete, holding a 4.0 GPA and playing libero at the highest level. She finishes off our roster for next fall, and adds to an already talented class. Ashley is an outstanding libero who has great range, quickness, touch, and ball control.”
Watson also played outside hitter for Chagrin Falls, leading the team in kills in her junior season. Her experience as a six-rotation outside hitter will help her translate to the Cougars' sand season in 2014.
Her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom earned Watson a place on Ohio High School All-Academic team.
