CHARLESTON, S.C. – Men's basketball senior Willis Hall and baseball senior Brandon Murray recently spoke to prospective students during the M.O.V.E. (Multicultural Overnight Visit Experience) event on campus on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The two-day event was put on by the Admissions Department as an opportunity for prospective students of different cultural backgrounds to experience college life by staying in the residence halls, visiting classrooms, exploring campus and interacting with current students in various activities, including student-athletes like Hall and Murray. Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Otto German was also in attendance as a speaker.
“It was a great opportunity to speak to students and really give them a sense of what life is like in college and especially as a student-athlete,” Murray said. “I tried to emphasize how important it is to get a college education and work hard in school, especially when you're balancing the different things you are doing.”
Hall spoke about the need to interact with professors and be proactive on campus.
“I talked about the importance of having a strong relationship with your teachers,” Hall said. “Whether you are on a team or in a club or involved with a group, you are often juggling a lot of responsibilities and working closely with your professors can help that.”
“I felt like all of the young people there were really attentive and interested in our experiences,” Murray said. “It's great when you feel like you can really help someone and give them guidance and encouragement on life decisions.”
Both Murray and Hall were on the Director of Athletics Honor Roll for the 2013 Spring Semester.
