MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team closed out its fall calendar on Sunday at the home-hosted CofC Invitational, a four team tournament held at the Cougars' Tennis Complex at Patriots Point.
Joined by Marshall, Georgia State and Georgia, The College's play over the weekend was highlighted by the performance of freshman Sarah Jane Jones, who played well in both singles and doubles, earning two impressive wins over top-level competition.
Playing against one of the most talented teams in the country on Sunday, the Cougars fell in all five singles matches against opposition from the University of Georgia, while the doubles pairing of Jenny Falcone and Katherine Schofield came close against the Georgia State duo of Timmermann and Komoe, before eventually falling, 8-7 (3).
“I'm pleased with the way we played in doubles today,” said College of Charleston Director of Tennis, Angelo Anastopoulo. “Jenny (Falcone) and Katherine Schofield came close against a good team from Georgia State, while I also enjoyed seeing Sarah Jane Jones play at a high-level. We'll take a few days off now and focus on what we need to do to be successful as we continue to prepare for the 2015 season.”
The Cougars officially open up 2015 play on Saturday, Jan. 17 versus Marshall, in Huntington, W. Va.
