CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite widespread wintry conditions blanketing the southeast, the College of Charleston track and field team is bound for Winston-Salem to take part in the UCS Invitational, a one day meet to be held at JDL Fast Track on Saturday.
The College is off to a hot start this season having performed very well in their first two appearances of their 2014 indoor campaign.
At the season opening Joe Hilton Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., The College were fantastic, claiming four 1st-place results, including Julisa Tindall (high jump), Roshani Glover (triple jump), Hayley McMahon (mile) and Trish Rein (3,000 meters).
The next weekend, back in Chapel Hill, the College maintained their momentum at the Tar Heel Open as McMahon again won the mile and Tindall took first in the high jump with a mark good enough to qualify her for the ECAC Championships in March.
Saturday's invitational is the third of five indoor events that the Cougars will be participating in this season and Cougars head coach Amy Seago is excited about her team's opportunity to continue their great start to the season.
“Indoor, in my eyes, is the best preparation for outdoor season,” said Seago. “We gain experience- especially in the technical events, learn more about ourselves in the moment of competition and lay the foundation for the championship phase of the season. We have trained hard the past two weeks and it is my hope that we will see marked improvements. Some challenging workouts have helped us to grow our mental edge and we have gained fitness as the season has progressed so better and better performances should be on the way.
Performing extremely well in practice the last two weeks have been Rachel Leder, Alexia Neal, Ciera Holston and Bri McDonald – all of who will have a chance to take center stage on Saturday.
