COLUMBIA, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to a talented No. 22 Boston University in the Garnett and Black Classic on Sunday afternoon.
The lone goal of the match came in the 11th minute when Jamie Turchi got a ball through the Cougar backline to Rachel Blauner who beat a diving Lauren Killian from six yards away.
"I'm really happy with the way we played today,” said head coach Christian Michner. “After the first 15 minutes we settled down and started to find our rhythm. Boston is a very, very good team and it's clear why they're a top 20 program at the moment.
“There was a noticeable shift in intensity and commitment from the girls today in comparison to our match Friday. We battled hard for every ball and were still creating chances to tie the game even in the last minute. I'm very proud of our team today and I feel good about where we're at now and moving forward."
Freshman Rio Speller-Drews and senior Sarah Cardamone were named to the all-tournament team for their performance on the week.
"Congratulations to Sarah Cardamone and Rio Speller-Drews for being voted onto the all-tournament Team,” said Michner. “Both had great weekends for us and are very deserving of their awards."
The Cougars return to action with next weekend's CofC Cup which they'll host at Patriots Point. The Cougars will challenge Illinois on Friday, Sept. 5 and Jacksonville on Sunday, Sept. 7.
