CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team never could find a rhythm falling to Towson, 3-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22) at TD Arena on Sunday.
“We knew coming in that it was going to be a tough weekend,” head coach Jason Kepner said. “I think we played well at times but made too many mistakes. We've got to shake it off and prepare for another tough contest on Tuesday.”
The Cougars led the first set 5-0 but Towson came roaring back to claim a 17-16 advantage. With CofC serving for set point at 24-22, the Tigers initiated a 6-2 run to take the set. Kayla Tronick posted seven kills in the opening set.
CofC (11-10, 3-4 CAA) rallied for a 6-2 run of its own to close out the second frame. The team hit .361 in the set as Melisso Morello recorded six kills including three consecutive early to give the Cougars a 9-7 lead.
Towson (19-3, 6-2) led for the majority of the third set, capping the win on a 4-0 run. The fourth frame was a closer affair as The College scored three straight to take a 13-12 lead, but the Tigers took advantage of 10 Cougar errors en route to the set win.
Tronick finished the game with a career-high 17 kills. Morello posted her 14th double-double of the season with 19 kills and 14 digs. Allison Beckman recorded 46 assists and has eclipsed 40 assists eight times. Britney Vallez turned in 21 digs.
