Cougars Take Down Northeastern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team defeated Northeastern 3-1 (25-11, 29-31, 25-20, 25-18) at TD Arena on Tuesday.
“I'm proud of the way our team responded after a tough weekend,” head coach Jason Kepner said. “It was a good win and hopefully it give us a boost as we enter a four-match road stretch.”
Melissa Morello led all players with 18 kills while freshman Kennedy Madison posted 13 kills and a .417 hitting percentage.
CofC (12-10, 4-4 CAA) came out red hot, surging to a 10-2 lead in the opening set. Morello posted two kills and a block in that stretch and Allison Beckman recorded an ace. The second frame was nip-and-tuck as the Huskies from a 20-16 hole to claim the win.
Five kills from Devon Rachel, who finished with 15 total, in the third set led the Cougars to a 25-20 victory while Morello led the way with five kills in the fourth as The College hit .361 to close out the match.
As a team, CofC hit .285 an held Northeastern to just a .139 hitting percentage. Led by Kayla Tronick's five blocks, the Cougars recorded 11 for the match. Allison Beckman finished with 31 assists while Mackenzie Cooler chipped in with 21.
College of Charleston hits the road over the weekend to take on Northeastern and Hofstra before traveling to Towson and James Madion a week later.
