Men's Results (10K): 30th out of 32 Teams (844 Pts)
Top Men's Performer: Colton Hennessey Finishes 147th (32:50.1)
Women's Results (6K): 23rd of 32 Teams (585 Pts)
Top Women's Finisher: Tori Churchill Finishes 93rdd (22:58.1)
“It was a more challenging course than what we've had so far this year,” head coach Amy Seago said. “The rolling hills out here slowed times down, but we raced well and it was a good way to cap the season off.”
The men and women each finished in the top-thirty. The women captured 23rd overall by way of a team score of 585, while the men took 30th (844). The women's finish was just a bit shy of being an all-time best, falling a tad short of the program's best finish of 20th in 2006.
For the first time this season, Colton Hennessey finished on top of his teammates, clearly benefitting from the longer 10K format of the regional meet. Hennessey finished 147th overall with a personal best time of 32:50.1. Senior Tyler Wood ran the final race of his collegiate career with a personal best of his own, grabbing 165th (33:12.1). Both men carved their names into the history books in the process, becoming the sixth and eighth-fastest 10K runners in CofC history respectively.
Sophomore Crew Kosiorek came in right on Wood's heels in 169th (33:20.1). Freshman Grant Gauthier and junior Josh Tierney rounded out the Top 5 finishers for the men, crossing the finish line 194th (34:31.0) and 199th (34:45.3).
“Colton and Tyler did very well,” Seago said of senior Tyler Wood. “It was outstanding for Tyler to go out the way he did, he's come so far since we got our hands on him.”
On the women's side, sophomore Tori Churchill stepped up when it mattered most to finish first on the Cougars with a time of 22:58.1, taking 93rd overall. It was just the second time all season Churchill has been the top finisher for the College, taking the top overall finish way back in September at the CofC Invitational.
Junior Cara Butcher finished close behind Churchill in 106th (23:03.5), with Hannah Lopez finishing behind her in 116th (23:24.9). Carlee Cassidy came in as the fourth scorer with a time of 23:24.9 to finish 133rd, and rounding things out, Ellen Feringa finished in the Top 5 for the second time in her collegiate career, finishing 156th (23:24.9).
“I think everybody left encouraged,” Seago said. “They see how hard work pays off, and they're motivated to get better. And we're really young, so I'm already looking forward to how far we can go next year.”
With the Regional meet concluded, so marks the end of the 2015 cross country season for the Cougars. For the men, it marks a time to relax and enjoy the Holidays before preparing for next year. For the women on the other hand, they'll enjoy only a brief reprieve, as the indoor track and field season starts in only a few weeks.
