CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston track and field program released its 2016 schedule today, revealing the road map the Cougars will follow in search of post-season success.
CofC is slated for four regular season meets during the indoor campaign before hitting the ECAC Championships in Boston, Mass. In 2015, the Cougars finished in a tie for 23rd out of 46 teams, and they'll be looking to improve upon that performance this year in Beantown.
Like last season, they'll visit UNC at the Art and Linda Maillet Open in Chapel Hill, and will then head to Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational to kick off their season. The Cougars will follow that up by making two back-to-back journeys to Winston-Salem, N.C. First, they'll head up for the High Point Scored Meet on Feb. 11, and then come right back the following weekend for the UCS Invitational on Feb. 20.
Once the indoor season is complete, the Cougars will step out onto the longer track for the outdoor slate. In the month of March, The College will grace four meets, though nobody will be able to compete in all of them. That's because after the UNCW Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. and the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the Cougars will split up to tackle the Raleigh Relays (Raleigh, N.C.) and UNF Spring Break Invitational (Jacksonville, Fla.) at the same time. The distance runners will head down south, while the non-distance runners will take off north.
In the month of April, the Cougars will see four more meets on the calendar heading into the postseason. They'll compete in a pair of very prestigious meets at the beginning of the month in the Florida Relays (Apr. 1-2) and the Tennessee Relays (Apr. 8-9). After that, the Cougars will be able to stay home for a change, when on Apr. 16, they will compete at Park West High School in Mt. Pleasant, giving their fans an opportunity to see them in person. They'll close out the month and the regular season in Boone, N.C. at Appalachian State's Mountaineer Outdoor Open.
Elon will hist the CAA Championships this season in Burlington, N.C. The Cougars finished seventh last season, and will be looking to step things up this year.
