Jessica Schifer | Women's Soccer | Freshman | Aiken, S.C.
Names the Colonial Athletic Association Player and Rookie of the Week, Schifer's pair of game-winners helped the Cougars (8-3, 2-0 CAA) pick up consecutive conference victories for the first time since joining the CAA in 2013. The Aiken, S.C. native has now won the CAA Rookie of the Week twice, with the other coming on Aug. 31 after she scored a game-winner against VCU.
The midfielder found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half Friday night, the lone goal in the Cougars 1-0 win over Delaware. Schifer completed the comeback for the CofC on Sunday against Drexel when she broke a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute to seal a 2-1 win. She is tied for the team lead in goals with five, all of which have been game-winners to lead the CAA and rank second in the NCAA.
Stefano Peschiera | Sailing | Sophomore | Lima, Peru
For the second year in a row, sophomore Stefano Peschiera (Lima, Peru) won the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship title over the weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. He was one of four Cougars competing in the inter-conference regatta as CofC swept all Top 4 places at the event and qualified three for nationals.
A 2016 Summer Olympic Games medal-hopeful, Peschiera will look to defend his national title in the event at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship on Nov. 7-8 in Norfolk, Va. This summer, he qualified for the Rio Olympics in the Laser class after finishing 24th at the 2015 ISF Laser World Championships in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
