PINEHURST, N.C. – Senior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) shot 3-under par to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to a fourth-place finish (+23) at the two-day CofC-hosted Pinehurst Challenge on Oct. 10-11 at the Pinehurst Golf Resort's No. 1 course.

Fuenfstueck shot rounds of 72, 72 and a season-low 69, while junior Josefine Garton (Linköping, Sweden) turned in back-to-back weekends of consistent play tied for 19th (+5). The total average score for all three rounds was 76.01 as teams battled the elements and playing conditions produced by Hurricane Matthew.

Fuenfstueck made four birdies in her final round and led the tournament field in pars (39). She finished behind individual medalist Lisa Pettersson of East Carolina (-8) and runner-up Kelli Murphy of Auburn (-7).

"Overall, I am very pleased with the way we played this week," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "Laura (Fuenfstueck) had an outstanding tournament. It has been a very stressful week due to Hurricane Matthew-related evacuations. We are looking forward to returning to campus and getting back into our normal routine."

East Carolina won the team title with a three-round 861 (-3), while Auburn was runner-up (+4) and Maryland third (+17). Samford, Wichita State, Charleston Southern, Kennesaw State, North Florida, James Madison, Stetson, Elon, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, High Point, Georgia State, UNCG and William & Mary made up the 18-team tournament field.

The Cougars will close out the fall portion of their season with the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 23-25 at Turtle Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C.
