CHARLESTON, S.C. – Legendary College of Charleston Head Coach John Kresse is one of three local community leaders to be honored at Be A Mentor's Fourth Annual Going Places Gala to be held on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Founders Hall at Charles Towne Landing located at 1500 Old Towne Road in Charleston.
Kresse, who coached the Cougars for 23 seasons compiling a 560-143 record, will receive the Be A Mentor Legacy Award, which honors a visionary whose personal and professional contributions have made a profound difference for the people of the Lowcountry.
The CofC Athletics Hall of Famer, who still boasts the fifth-highest winning percentage (.797) among NCAA Division I head coaches all-time, will be honored alongside Barbara Kelley-Duncan and Kevin Smith. All three have dedicated their lives to ensuring that all students are going places.
The event will also celebrate Be A Mentor's volunteers and supporters who make "A World of Difference" in the lives of countless Lowcountry children. The evening will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and feature live music by The Lowhills, a silent auction, libations, international bites representing regions from around the world and much more. All proceeds from the event directly benefit the mission of Be A Mentor and the 350+ local children that the organization serves every school year.
