
Cassell, Helvey Named Harris Teeter Student-Athletes of the Week

Valerie Cassell had an outstanding weekend for the College of Charleston. Over the course of four games, she was 6-for-8 (.750 Avg.), with eight RBI. Two of those hits were home runs, including a grand slam on Friday against Campbell. She also drew three walks, and recorded a phenomenal slugging percentage of 1.500. Cassell also did some pitching for The College, and recorded one strikeout and allowed no hits in her 1.2 innings of work.

College of Charleston senior Nathan Helvey has been named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week. Helvey tossed 5.1 innings of two-hit baseball in the Cougars 2-1 win over No. 10 Florida State on Friday. The Fort Mill, S.C., native struck out three batters and didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. On the season, Helvey has yet to allow a run in 11.1 innings of work and currently ranks third in CofC history with a 2.63 career ERA.
