NEWARK, DEL. – It was anybody's game for all but the last four minutes Sunday night, but the Delaware Blue Hens (10-8, 4-3) pulled away late to hand the College of Charleston women's basketball team (5-13, 2-5) the 71-66 defeat.
• The College set the tone early with an 8-0 run to force Delaware into a timeout just two minutes into the game, and pushed the lead as high as seven before finishing the first up 20-18. The game featured six lead-changes throughout and spent over three and a half minutes of play where both teams were all tied up. The game was actually tied as late as two minutes into the fourth quarter before the Blue Hens recaptured the lead for good.
•
Tanisha Brown recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and very nearly earned a triple-double thanks to a jaw-dropping, career-best eight steal performance (five of which came in the first half). That matches Bolden's eight-steal game against Charlotte earlier this season as tied for the 2
nd-highest single game steal total in the CofC Division I Era.
•
Breanna Bolden had another stellar performance with 23 points, nine rebounds and three steals, and in the process moved past Natalie Seel (1990-94) for 2
nd on the CofC Division I Era scoring list with 1453 points. Through her past six games, Bolden has tallied at least 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals in every contest.
• The Cougars bounced back nicely from the Drexel game to win the turnover battle 20-13. However, Delaware's 46.9% (23 of 49) shooting from the field proved superior to CofC's 39.1% (27 of 69), and they won the rebounding war 39-33 as well. Erika Brown and Nicole Enabosi has exquisite games, with Enabosi picking up a 23-12 double-double and the pair combining for 49 points on a cumulative 17-21 from the field and 11 of 13 from the stripe.
The College returns home for a Friday morning matchup with Hofstra, when the host the pride at 11:30 a.m. for Education Day.
